Report On Performances Of League Teams In 2004

Mixed Season
2004 proved to be a mixed season for the club with each of the league teams having varying degrees of success, or otherwise.

Beginning with the Gents teams, the above statement certainly holds true. The division one team had, what for them was, a very disappointing season. From beginning to end they were never able to put together any kind of consistency and were rarely out of the bottom half of the table.

The one positive of the team was the rink of Bill Dunleavey, which was the only one of the three to consistently win points for the side. Had they not performed as well as they did, the team's eventual relegation to division two, would have been decided much sooner.

The division four team, relegated the previous season from division three, only just failed to return to the higher division. All three skips - and the players in front of them - played their part as the team completed the season two points short of a promotion place. With the side only losing three games ( two of them to the division winners ), it was the loss away to Macmerry that proved crucial.

Seniors Led The Way
As far as the leagues are concerned, it was the 'Senior' members of the club that led the way. The Gents Senior team ( with the new rule allowing players of 55+ to play in the team ) were one of the pacesetters in their league, along with Longniddry who pushed them all the way. Indeed over the last three or four games any one of them could have emerged as division winners. Luckily for Aberlady it was Longniddry who cracked first and Aberlady finished on top.

The Ladies section entered a team in the Ladies Senior league rather than the 'normal' league and had a very successful season. They played consistently throughout the campaign and as a consequence had a more 'leisurely' last few games than the Gents Seniors, having the championship wrapped up well before the last game.

Youths - Excellent Performances
Last, but certainly not least, is the performance of the club's Youth team. This talented group of players had a very good season. They finished in a mid table position which was a very credible effort. There was many excellent performances, both individually and as a team. It is also worth mentioning that some of the youth players were given their chance in the Gents division four team where they played very well.
