The division one team started the season with high hopes of finishing in the top three, with an outside chance of maybe capturing the title. Early season form seemed to indicate that such aims were not unreasonable with the team competing against the other teams in the division. However their early form was not sustained and the team began to drop down the table to the point that playing the last game of the season they sat in third bottom position. A 6-2 win away at Haddington, in the last game, moved them up to fourth from bottom. In division three Aberlady's second team started the season with a 6-2 defeat against East Linton and after three games had picked up only five points all of them coming from Mike Carey's rink. From this dismal start the team began to collect points on a regular basis and by the end of the season had pulled themselves up from the bottom of the league to fourth bottom to ensure their place in division three next season. Mention should be made of Gary hands's rink as he finished with the best record of the three skips. The gents senior team had a very good start to the season, winning their first three games, and were looking good to retain the title that they had won for the previous eight years, but a slump in form during the middle part of the season saw the team slide down the table. Despite finishing with some good results the title was already lost and they finished the season in the top four. Alistair Russell carried this seasons good form into this competition as he progressed round by round to the final where he played and beat Stuart Cuthill ( 21-16 ) to round off a very good season for him. Aberlady's ladies also had success in 2009 with the trio of Nancy Mumford, Agnes Cunningham and Janette Hunter winning the Jenella Trophy for the second year in a row. While Laura Brunton showed her quality by reaching the SWBA District 28 under 25 final at Polton losing out to Dee Hogan from Tranent, as well as reaching the final of the Ladies Championship at Aberlady. |
