Bill Wins Championship
This years championship final between Bill Dunleavey - a previous winner - and Brian Hunter had all the hallmarks of being a very close contest and for the first half of the game that is how it turned out.It was Bill who was first to score with a three at the first end but by the fourth end it was Brian who led by 6-3 which included a full house ( 4 shots ) on that end. The game could have gone either way at this point as neither player was able to stamp his authority on proceedings. It was peels at 6-6 then again at 9-9 after ten ends. It was at this point, with neither player playing as well as they can, that Bill took control. he won four ends in a row to race into a 16-9 lead. Brian then picked up a shot at the fifteenth end to cut the deficit to six shots but with Bill scoring four shots without reply over the next three ends to lead 20-10 it looked like there would be only one winner. Four shots over the next two ends gave Brian some reason to think all was not lost but the comeback ended at the next end when Bill picked up the shot he needed for a final 21-14 scoreline. Joy Is Ladies
The Ladies Championship was contested between Joy McLeod and Cath Yule, both with experience of playing in the final - Joy as Championship winner.Champion On a perfect evening for bowling, Joy was the quickest to settle, racing into a 6-0 lead after four ends and although Cath picked up two singles on the next two ends it was Joy who was playing the much better bowls at that stage of the game. She continued to do so over the next three ends to lead 10-6 and looked to be very much in control of the game. Cath though, had other ideas. She collected eight shots over the following four ends to go ahead 14-10. This seemed to spur Joy to greater effort and she began to impose herself on the game again and over the next five ends she picked up eleven shots without reply to win 21-14. Gordon Is
On a glorious Sunday afternoon the club's youths took to the green all hoping to emerge as Youth Champion.
Throughout this competition there was many fine performances and everyone who took part can be very proud of the high standard of play which they displayed.Youth Champion After some very competative matches it was Gordon White and Fraser Pringle who made it through to the final where they played as well as any adult would be happy to emulate This was a very tight game and the score was peels at 3-3 and again at 7-7 with both players having held the lead at some time. Gordon then briefly went ahead with a single but a few ends later he found himself trailing 9-13 as Fraser went into what appeared to be a commanding lead. Gordon though got the score back to peels at 13-13 and then again at 14-14. At the next end Fraser was lying game ( it was the first to fifteen ) and Gordon played the perfect drive to burn the end. On the next end Gordon picked up the winning shot for a final score of 15-14. Ben Wins
This competition is for those players who are knocked out in the first round of the Youth Championship and it is the first to fifteen shots who is the winner.Bay Trophy The finalists were Calum Currie and Ben Inglis. As skip of the successful SBA youth triple, Ben was the hot favourite although, with such a high standard of bowling throughout the day, the outcome could have gone either way. Indeed, over the first few ends it was Calum who seemed the hungrier player as he picked up the shots to lead 5-2. Ben then scored four shots without reply to go ahead 6-5 and added a further seven to stretch the margin to eight shots in his favour, 13-5. Over the next few ends Calum fought back picking up six shots to Ben's one to trail by three shots, 11-14 only for Ben to secure the shot he needed for victory, at the next end. |
