The club is not the largest in East Lothian, indeed there are quite a few that are much larger , but it often performs above it's size. Over the years the club has won many trophies in the county including The County Cup, The Brown Trophy and The Jubilee Cup ( Top Ten ) to name three. Many of them on numerous occasions. Major achievements include Jock Brodie & Jackie Greenwood winning the British Pairs title in 1988 and Jim Florence, Bill Dunleavey and 'Cha' Greenwood lifting the Scottish Triples trophy in 2000. The latest 'major' trophy to be won is the Scottish Senior Fours title won in 2004 & 2005 by Davie Balfour, George Marshall, Jock Brodie and Jackie Greenwood. The ladies section at the club has also been very successful, with triumphs in the Haddington Trophy, Champion Of Champions and the East of Scotland competition(s). As with the men's section some of these trophies have been won on more than one occasion. A Social SportBowls is a great game for socialising both on and off the green and a good way of making new friends. The entertainment committee arrange events to ensure that there is something on at the club throughout the year So whether you have played bowls before or are looking for a new activity, then why not get in touch with the club either by .e-mail or in person at the club. Go on, you know it makes sense. many members play just for fun but if you are looking to play competatively there are various club competitions you can enter. So come along and have a go - there is a Junior/Youth section so you can also bring along the younger family members. Exercise While Having Fun Low Membership Fee You Can Play At Your Own Pace Bowls Etiquette Below is a list of ( hopefully ) helpful pointers on bowls etiquette.1. Do not drop bowls on the green. 2. Do not distract your opponent when he is playing his bowls. 3. Be ready to play when it is your turn. 4. Respect novices as you would an experienced player - you were once a beginner. 5. Remember that in a fours game it is the THIRD player that decides the shots. 6. Bowls should not be kicked in until the shot has been decided. 7. In a Fours Game, the 'second' keeps the score; in a Pairs Game the 'Skip' does. 8. Win or lose, congratulate your opponent - keep your frustrations off the green. 9. It is only a game, ENJOY IT. |
