Gents Division 2 The 2005 season was a very successful one for Aberlady Bowling Club on all levels. After struggling throughout 2004 to try to maintain their top division status, only to be relegated at the end of the season, in 2005 the division two team put together a run of impressive results which saw them lead the division from start to finish and gain promotion as champions. A result which gained them entry into the Courier Cup. Gents Division 4 The other Gents league team, in division four, also had a good season, finishing as runners-up which saw them promoted to division three. After losing the first game of the season to Longniddry promotion seemed a difficult proposition. Consistent results though, saw the team go into the penultimate game of the season ( against E L Labour ) with a chance of winning the division. Aberlady lost the game, but were so far ahead of the rest that second place was assured. Gents Seniors Defending their title, the Gents Seniors team went into the season in confident mood. As their play week after week showed this was fully justified as they were never out of the hunt for the championship. Even though their play was consistently very good the fight for the title was a close affair and was only decided in Aberlady's favour in the final week. Ladies Seniors With successes for the three Gents teams it was up to the Ladies Senior team to shown that they were not going to be outdone. In their first season ( 2004 ) in the Senior league they won the title so last season were the 'team to beat' for all the other clubs. The ladies did not disappoint as they put in a series of fine performances to regain the title. Youth Team The youth team continued to impress throughout the 2005 season. There was a number of fine performances, individually and as a team. They finished in a respectable mid table position. |
