W/E 25th June 2005

Gents Division 2
At home, against Ormiston, Aberlady won 8-0.

Gents Division 4
Longniddry, with home advantage, were looking to halt Aberlady's good run of results. As it turned out the result finished in Aberlady's favour.
Jackie Greenwood's rink was the one that struggled once again. However, down three playing the last end Jackie drew for a count of four, but Bill Campbell countered by drawing the shot to claim two points for Longniddry and increasing Jackie's losses now to three in a row.

The other two Aberlady rinks - skipped by Jock Brodie and Jock Cunningham - finished up, to secure a 6-2 win. A result which leaves the back end pairing of Mike Carey ( third ) and Jock Cunningham ( skip ) unbeaten and Mike unbeaten, so far, in 2005, both as third and skip.

Ladies Seniors
Information not available at 26th June.

Youths
In their latest home game, against E L Co-op 'B' the youths may have been expecting a reasonably easy game as they were playing the bottom team. With the game ending in a shock 13-12 defeat, it may act as a wake up call to the Aberlady team.

W/E 18th June 2005

Gents Division 2
Away, against E L Co-op, Aberlady won 6-2.

Gents Division 4
Port Seton 'B' arrived at Aberlady looking for a win to lift them further up the table, but left with only two of the possible eight points.

The rinks of Jock Cunningham and Jock Brodie both won, by enough shots to secure a 6-2 win . Jackie Greenwood's rink was the only one to lose.

Gents Seniors
In this away game against Tranent both Aberlady rinks finished up ( Jackie Greenwood, +3 and Jock Cunningham, +5 ) for a maximum 6-0 win.

Ladies Seniors
Aberlady won.

Youths
The Aberlady team looked to be heading for a win in this home game against Castlepark 'B' but the Castlepark youths showed their resilience by fighting to the end to win by one shot, 13-12.

W/E 11th June 2005

Gents Division 2
Aberlady , playing at home, beat Stenton 6-2.

Gents Division 4
With visitors, E L Labour Club, having lead division four since the start of the season, Aberlady were hoping that home advantage would give them the edge. For much of the game the result could have gone either way but in the end Aberlady lost out, 2-6.

The only rink to be in control throughout was that of Jock Cunningham, while those of Jock Brodie and Jackie Greenwood failed to secure any points.

Gents Seniors
Aberlady won this close encounter with Prestongrange 'B', 5-1. On their home green the rink scores were; Jock Cunningham, +11 shots - Jackie Greenwood, Peels.

Ladies Seniors
On the difficult Prestongrange green Aberlady's Ladies suffered their first league defeat of 2005.

Youths
On their own green Aberlady won 13-12 against a strong Tranent team.

W/E 4th June 2005

Gents Division 2
Following a close - but successful - encounter last week Aberlady continued their league programme away at Elphinstone.

In a game that was always going to be tough the home side won 7-1. It would have been a whitewash, but for a battling fightback by Bill Dunleavey's rink who salvaged a point.

Gents Division 4
With Dirleton struggling to put together a team these days, in this home game Aberlady had everything in their favour.

They did not disappoint, recording a maximum 8-0 win.

Gents Seniors
Aberlady overcame a very tricky - and heavy - green to return home with a 6-0 win, against Prestongrange 'A'. Jackie Greenwood was 10 shots up, and Jock Cunningham 5 shots up.

Ladies Seniors
Not Known

Youths
On a wet night, in this away game Aberlady's Youth team were out-bowled by a strong Haddington four, who won by 19 shots to 5.

Games Played w/e 28th May 2005

Gents Division 2
This week's game, away to Gifford could have been the one to halt the team's impressive start to the season, as many people expected a close game. On shots this was the case as will be seen later.

Bill Dunleavey has been bringing in a consistent run of results and once again his rink did not disappoint, winning by one shot. The highest up Aberlady rink was that of Jim Pringle ( jnr. ) who finished ten shots up. With Stuart Cuthill losing by nine shots the result of the game could easily have gone the other way.

Gents Division 4
This game, at home to East Linton, turned out to be a close affair with the result in doubt until the last end - at least on two of the rinks.

As with last week's game Jackie Greenwood's rink established control reasonably early in the game and ran out winners by eleven shots. Jock Cunningham was involved in a close game from start to finish and did just enough to win by two shots.

The excitement - if it can be called that - was with Mike Carey's rink. After a good start they found themselves six shots down after nine. But a spirited fightback saw them leading by 1 shot with one end to play. Lying well at the last end ( two touchers, one by George Marshall two inches in front of the jack, Mike thought his last bowl would not be needed, that is until the East Linton skip's last bowl came of a clutch of bowls and lay for shot. East Linton picked up a shot at the extra end to result in peels on that rink. A result which leaves Mike as the only unbeaten skip ( Aberlady div.4 team ) at this point in the season.

Gents Seniors
On a very heavy Castlepark green Aberlady recorded a 4-2 loss ( against Castlepark 'B' ). Jackie Greenwood was defeated heavily by nineteen shots. Had it not been for Jock Cunningham winning by one shot all of the points would have been lost.

Ladies Seniors
While all the other leagues have been running for weeks, Aberlady's Ladies Senior team have had to wait until now to embark on their title defence

Away to Castlepark 'A' they showed that they are in no mood to give up their crown easily, as they picked up two points for their ten shot win.

Ladies Triples
No Game

Youths
After their comprehensive win last week the Youth team were confident of a good performance on their home green. On a night described as ''not a good night for bowling'' they were involved in a very close contest against Macmerry '2', only losing the game on the last end, 13-12.

Games Played w/e 21st May 2005

Gents Division 2
The Division two team continues to pick up good results. On their own green the Aberlady team recorded a credible 6-2 win.

Bill Dunleavey's rink continued it's fine recent form, finishing twelve shots up. They were ably assisted by the four of Jim Pringle ( jnr. ) who also won, 13 shots up. The afore mentioned rinks more than covered the six shot deficit of Stuart Cuthill.

Gents Division 4
Right from the start of this away game at Macmerry it was evident that Jackie Greenwood was going to secure two points for Aberlady as he was in control throughout. Surging quickly to a big lead his rink ran out easy winners.

However the result was still in doubt right to the end as the rink of Jock Brodie struggled to find any consistent form and never looked like winning. With his rink finishing down it was all down to Mike Carey's four. On his rink the game was close all the way ( only because of a loss of two counts of 5 shots ). Mike finished three shots up, 21-18 to secure a 6-2 win.

Gents Seniors
In a home game against Longniddry Aberlady's Gents Seniors continued to dominate the division with a 5-1 win. Jackie Green wood won and Jock Brodie peeled

Ladies Seniors
No Game

Ladies Triples
No Game

Youths
Aberlady's youngsters - who are quite experienced now - headed for E L Co-op in confident mood but expecting a tough game. The opposite was the case as Aberlady ran out easy winners by 22-3

ELBA Trophy
On their own green, against East Linton, Aberlady were looking to continue their progress in the competition. Wins for the pairs of Bill Dunleavey and Jim Pringle ( jnr. ), by 23-10 and 23-17 respectively were not enough to take the team through as losses for the triples of Jock Brodie ( 7-26 ) and Stuart Cuthill ( 7-23 ) meant a 4-4 draw on points but a shots win for East Linton.

Games Played w/e 14th May 2005

Gents Division 2
With fourteen points from their first two games Aberlady were favourites to add to that total when Dunbar came to visit. However the game was close throughout the evening with the result in doubt right to the last end of the game.

With one rink still on the green it could so easily have ended as a 4-4 draw, but it was Aberlady who came out on top to win 6-2. The rink scores were wins for Bill Dunleavey and Stuart Cuthill by 1 and 6 shots respectively, and a 6 shot defeat for Jim Florence.

Gents Division 4
Since the first night defeat to Longniddry the team has had a consistent run of results and it was important to continue it against Athelstaneford, in a game which could have been a tricky one.

The Aberlady players were obviously in no mood to let the visitors cause them any problems as they recorded a comprehensive victory by 60+ shots. Mike Carey won 28-6, with the other two rinks also winning by around twenty shots each, in a result that is a great boost to their shots difference.

Gents Seniors
The Gents Seniors continued in a winning vein when they beat North Berwick by 38 shots ( Jock Cunningham, 17+ & Jackie Greenwood, 21+ ) on the Aberlady green.

Youths
The Youth team opened their season with a difficult away tie at Castlepark. In a game that was described as 'very good' it was Aberlady who emerged as victors. It was far from easy though and in fact going into the last end the Aberlady side were two shots down. They managed to pick up a count of four shots at the last end to win the match 13-11.

ELBA Trophy
Following on from the win over Longniddry the previous week the Aberlady team anticipated a difficult game away to Port Seton. The score would indicate otherwise as Aberlady won the game 7-1, with a pair and both triples up on shots and the other pair peels.

Games Played w/e 7th May 2005

Gents Division 2
After opening the season with an 8-0 win at home against EL Co-op, the first team headed for Ormiston hoping to pick up more points in their quest for a quick return to division one.

At the close of play it was Aberlady who came out winners, 6-2. Wins of three and thirteen shots for Bill Dunleavey and Jim Pringle ( Jnr. ) respectively covered a heavy thirteen shot defeat by the rink of Jim Florence.

Gents Division 4
After picking up fourteen points from their first two games the team took to the Prestongrange green confident of continuing the good start to the season. It turned out to be a closer game than some had anticipated with the rinks of Jackie Greenwood and Jock Brodie struggling to make any impact. Indeed with two ends to play it looked as though Prestongrange were heading for a 6-2 win as the aforementioned two rinks were both around six shots down.

The only rink looking to collect points for Aberlady was the one skipped by Mike Carey as they had a comfortable lead. The game was turned on its head when Jackie's rink scored six shots on the second last end and one shot at the last. Combined with the 10 shot win by Mike Carey - on his return as skip after being rejected by the selectors as an automatic choice - it was enough to give Aberlady a 6-2 win. Jock Brodie finished three shots down.

Club News

Going To Ayr
Once again Aberlady found success in the District Finals when the Triples ( H L Bell, A. Pringle, J. Pringle Jnr. ) and the Senior Four ( D. Balfour, G. Marshall, J. Brodie, J. Greenwood ) both won through to the Scottish Finals. Good Luck Lads.
