As they headed west to compete in the Scottish Championships on the Northfield greens in Ayrshire, the Aberlady Seniors Four of Davie Balfour, George Marshall, Jock Brodie and Jackie Greenwood would have been confident of giving anyone a difficult game. They in fact did much more than that as they had a very successful tournament - Jock and Jackie's fifth Scottish Finals appearance - and emerged as Scottish Senior Fours Champions. First opponents for the Aberlady four was Alva South who were no match for the East Lothian team and were swept aside 29-5 in a rain-soaked match. They came up against Ayr in the next round in what was a much tighter game than the previous one. That was until Aberlady picked up seven shots at the second last end to swing the game their way. They went on to win 16-9. Caldercraig were the next opposition. Aberlady were on a roll by this time and emerged winners with a score similar to their previous game, 16-8.
In the semi-final Burleton stood between Aberlady and a place in the final and on one end they lay four shots before a drive changed the head completely to give Aberlady three shots. This inspired the team to a 16-8 victory and a chance of glory.
The final against Barnhill, which was played on a very tricky green, appeared to be going Aberlady's way with them 14-10 up with two ends to play. Then disaster struck in the shape of a loss of four shots on the next end to take the tie into the final end peels at 14-14.
At one time things looked bleak with Barnhill lying three shots, until a drive from Jackie Greenwood burnt the end. Aberlady went on to win the replayed end to become Scottish Senior Fours Champions.
